The Huntsville School District discussed inclusion of an exhibit required by the LEARNS Act in the superintendent’s contract that outlines academic goals for the district. The superintendent said the exhibit language came from ASBA’s legal department and from consultation with Lucas Harder at the ASDA/SDA.
The superintendent emphasized the goals are goals—not automatic termination conditions—saying, “these are goals. These are not like, okay. So we don't make it, then we get a new superintendent. Correct. It's just like teachers.” He added, “We're gonna reach those goals.”
The board also reviewed student transfer statistics and personnel items in the consent/board packet. The superintendent reported a net movement of transfers described as: 12 students leaving who had been enrolled but are not attending, 2 students transferring in, and a net of 24 students going out when other categories are included. The board then reviewed personnel items added to the agenda because school is starting: a classified resignation (April Gruber, Huntsville High School food service) and a newly added classified hire (Susan Aune, route bus driver), plus multiple other hires and transfers listed by position and school (classroom teachers, SPED teacher, paraprofessionals, food service and bus drivers). The transcript shows the personnel roster read aloud but does not include a recorded roll-call vote tally in the transcript.
