Laredo ISD security committee moves to closed session to review district vulnerability assessment

A committee member moved Monday that the Laredo ISD School Safety and Security Committee meet in closed session to review the district's full vulnerability assessment report, and the committee proceeded to stop its public recording and ask noncommittee attendees to leave the boardroom.

"I don't know if you would like to move to have it as a closed session because we do have the district vulnerability assessment full report that we would need to discuss possibly. So moved," a committee member said during the meeting in the Amber Urie Boardroom at 2400 San Bernardo. A second was requested and the chair asked for a voice vote.

After the motion, meeting staff said the recording would be stopped. Committee members then asked those not on the committee to step out of the room and confirmed a quorum before proceeding. Committee staff said the full vulnerability assessment report had been delivered to members the prior week for review.

Chief Doreen Hale of the fire department and Assistant Chief Martinez of the City of Laredo Police were recorded as present during roll call. Mr. Lopez was noted to be sitting in for Mr. Juan Ramirez on the committee. The transcript shows no formal public tally of the voice vote and does not record substantive discussion of the assessment in open session.
