Richland County officials said equipment for the radio tower project is arriving, but the project timeline is delayed while agencies complete inventories of subscriber radios, county staff told the committee on Aug. 1.
An emergency-management speaker said new radio equipment is being moved in and that county staff have met with the fire mutual-aid association, which has questions about subscriber radio funds and how the county will implement them. The speaker said the project team hopes to have answers by the end of the month but that progress depends on agencies returning complete inventories.
On county invoices, the committee approved the monthly invoices by voice vote. One invoice tied to a tower lease with Civic Media was pulled for separate negotiation; county staff said they would seek a six‑month payment arrangement rather than a full-year payment because they do not expect to use that tower beyond six months. The committee voted to approve the remaining invoices; the Civic Media item will be addressed in follow-up discussions.
Why it matters: the radio-tower upgrades are linked to county communications and public-safety interoperability. Delays in collecting radio inventories slow deployment and the timing of associated funding and training.
County officials also said they are continuing work on related grant and funding items and will include subscriber questions on the next meeting agenda.
