Person County commissioners approve three housekeeping planning amendments aligning county text with state law

Interim planning director Margaret Hart summarized each item in turn and described them as largely technical or clarifying changes. Key points included:
- TA‑03‑25 (agenda item 5a): Amendments to the Person County plan and ordinances to correct references and spelling errors, integrate language creating two advisory boards into the planning ordinance, and require that staff post public‑hearing signs on applicant property to align with state law. Hart said current practice often has applicants post signs but that Chapter 160D of state law requires the planning director to post property signs; the amendment would put the correct language in the ordinance.
- TA‑04‑25 (agenda item 5c): Modification to the zoning permit validity period so that once work has begun the permit does not automatically expire; if work ceases for more than one year, permits would expire — a change Hart said better aligns county rules with state law and common-law vesting principles and avoids requiring reissuance when lengthy projects encounter weather or supply delays.
- TA‑05‑25 (agenda item 5d): Minor corrections to the Person County subdivision regulations to add a state-law cross-reference and assert accurate amendment dates.
All three items went to the planning board; Hart said the planning board reviewed and recommended the updates. No members of the public signed up to speak for or against these petitions during the meeting.
Each motion to adopt the respective petition was approved by voice vote; the meeting record shows the board adopted the amendments with no recorded opposition for these items. The planning director said she will post the corrected ordinance text to the county website after returning from vacation.
