A representative of the Alleghany County Chamber of Commerce read a letter during the public-comment portion of the meeting to clarify the chamber's policy on selling tickets to events. The letter said the chamber provides ticketing and promotional support equally for nonprofit and for-profit member organizations and that providing ticketing services is not an endorsement of an organization's mission or candidates.
The letter cited examples of groups that have used the chamber's ticketing assistance, including local nonprofits and community organizations, and said the chamber will review its policy at an upcoming August board meeting. The chamber representative told commissioners that the chamber receives no portion of ticket proceeds when it provides ticketing as a logistical service.
Commissioners thanked the representative for the clarification and invited questions; no board action was required.
