Farhan, a U.N. spokesperson, said the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned of a rapidly escalating humanitarian crisis in Haiti's Artibonite region where expanding gang presence has triggered new displacement.
He said violence on July 22 linked to gangs flared in the town of Liancourt and included vehicles and several homes set ablaze. The International Organization for Migration reported that "nearly 15,000 people have been displaced across 4 communes in the Artibonite Department" as of July 19. Farhan said displaced families are staying with host families, many of whom were already struggling to meet basic needs.
The briefing noted that humanitarian partners distributed hundreds of hot meals, provided hygiene kits to more than 500 displaced households and set up child-friendly spaces offering mental health and psychosocial support.
