UNIFIL restores observation post near Blue Line after damage; finds unexploded ordnance and weapons cache

Farhan, a U.N. spokesperson, said peacekeepers from the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon observed illumination fire south of the Blue Line that struck a forested area about 1 kilometer from the mission's headquarters in Naqoura; the resulting bushfire was extinguished by UNIFIL peacekeepers.
Farhan reported that UNIFIL has continued to record Israeli Defense Forces activities in the area, including air violations and small-arms fire. He said UNIFIL patrols found two unexploded ordnances in Sector West and, on another patrol, an unguarded weapons cache containing nine rockets; as per usual practice, these items were referred to the Lebanese Armed Forces.
The spokesperson said the U.N. flag was re-raised at a restored UNIFIL observation post in Lubune (the post had been damaged in earlier hostilities). Special engineering units cleared 1,358 square meters of surrounding land of mines and unexploded ordnance before the post became operational again. Farhan linked the post's restoration to "enhanced UNIFIL capacity to monitor potential violations of Security Council resolution 1701."
