City staff report donor‑sign damage at library and ongoing contractor dispute over seating work

At the July 28 Cascade City Council meeting staff reported concerns about a donor sign at the public library and a related dispute with a contractor over seating replacement.
Staff member Diana said the library donor sign, an acrylic plaque, was damaged and an attempted repair made it look worse. "It's just an acrylic and it's, like, pulled apart," Diana said during the meeting. She told council she contacted Lang Scientific (the vendor) about the sign; Lang attempted repairs but the staff member said the result did not meet expectations.
Diana also described an unresolved negotiation with the contractor responsible for seating work at the library. She said the contractor does not want to remove certain materials and, if removal occurs, expects the city to haul the materials away and replace backfill. Diana said she believes the city should not bear the cost for incomplete or improper work and that staff will continue to press the contractor to perform the work correctly before the city accepts it.
Staff also reported they are seeking additional asphalt quotes (to be presented at the next meeting) and working on donor signage for the Riverview Park pavilion. No formal council action was taken on the sign or seating dispute; staff said they will continue negotiations and return with updates.
