Glendale City Council unanimously directed staff to prepare a report and to consider forming an ad hoc committee to plan for regional opportunities tied to upcoming World Cup and Olympics events.
Councilmember Asatourian introduced the request, saying she wanted a broader council discussion about how Glendale could leverage the large international sports events to promote local businesses, tourism and community involvement. The motion asked staff to identify opportunities, potential partnerships with local companies and community engagement strategies. Councilmember Kasakian seconded and the motion passed on roll call.
City manager staff said an initial Glendale promotional deck had been prepared and looked positive; council asked staff to return with a fuller report and recommended membership for any ad hoc committee.
Ending: Staff will prepare a report and proposed structure for an ad hoc committee to be considered at a future meeting.
