PORTERVILLE — The newly formed Porterville Downtown Committee opened its work with a broad vision to restore the city’s downtown identity, a push for public-safety measures and a decision to meet monthly.
Chairman Ed McKervey framed the committee’s purpose at the meeting, saying, “People die from the lack of vision. So we need to have a vision.” He told the group the city council expects downtown to be central to Porterville’s identity and that the committee should pursue practical steps to encourage business activity while addressing safety and cleanliness.
