Mister Keeney, staff member who presented the assessment report, also summarized the district’s belonging and community work and professional development from the past year.
He described the district’s roadmap of district objectives and school‑level SMART goals aimed at inclusive classrooms, equity in behavioral management and representation in instructional materials. The district convened multiple professional development sessions (four distinct PD days during the year) and reported strong feedback: staff described the time as “extremely beneficial” and useful for collaborative lesson development.
Keeney detailed specific steps taken: a curriculum checklist for cultural competence that curriculum writers must use during the five‑year curriculum cycle; expanded digital library purchases funded in part by an education foundation grant; middle school updates to the code of conduct and an updated student handbook; and planned parent surveys to gather classroom‑level information before the school year.
Keeney also presented selected student survey items showing gains in several areas (for example, K–6 students reported increases on “I learn about people who are different from me”). He noted 78 percent on the measure “I have an adult I feel comfortable talking to at school” for secondary grades and emphasized continued work to raise K–6 supports.
The board did not take formal action on the belonging and community report; Keeney said many items are in implementation and will continue to be tracked and reported back to the board.
