Council approves bringing communications work in-house, posts job this week

On July 22 the Town Council approved a resolution to create a communications position and accelerate an earlier plan to bring communications work in-house. Town Manager Aaron Adams, with human-resources and finance staff, said turnover at the Slate communications team presented an opportunity to post an in-house position sooner than the originally budgeted Jan. 1, 2026 start date.
Adams and staff said Slate will continue to support the town during the transition and is expected to help train the incoming employee. Slate principal Kim Newcomer addressed the council by videoconference and said Slate will help onboard and support Timnath and that the firm will not leave the town “high and dry.”
Finance staff indicated the cost for the remainder of the fiscal year to accelerate the hire would be no more than $36,259. Councilors expressed support for the move, citing growth in town operations and the benefit of having a communicators on site rather than relying solely on a consultant. The motion passed 4-0.
