County manager reports GFL pickup delays, names new emergency management director and highlights community events

The company obtained three replacement trucks from a neighboring firm, and GFL told the county it planned to be "back on track by [the] close of business tomorrow," the manager said. The county placed a notice on its website and on the public works page explaining the service delay.
The manager announced that Chris Collier, the county's fire chief and fire marshal, was selected as the county's emergency management director following interviews for the position. The manager said Collier has firefighting and sheriff's-department experience and has worked closely with the county's emergency-management leadership over the past year.
Commissioners used their time to thank staff and volunteers who supported recent community events. Several commissioners praised the Northampton County Recreation Department's backpack and school-supplies giveaway and the Liberation Day event in Rich Square, and they thanked participating departments including law enforcement, social services and the health department.
No formal votes were recorded on the GFL matter or on the personnel announcement during the public portion of the meeting; the board later moved into closed session for economic development and personnel matters under North Carolina law (N.C. Gen. Stat. §143-318.11).
