NCDOT presents draft Greene County Comprehensive Transportation Plan; board asked to allow public workshops

NCDOT planners presented a draft Greene County Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) and requested the commission's blessing to conduct public workshops to gather citizen input.
"This plan is called Greene County Comprehensive Transportation Plan," said Carlos Moya of the NCDOT Transportation Planning Division. Moya told commissioners the CTP is a long-range planning document that considers vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists, public transportation and aviation where applicable, and that it draws on local land-use plans and state programming data.
Moya described the plan as data-driven and noted a typical development timeline of 12 to 18 months. He said the draft includes recommendation maps, analysis maps (for bridges and other infrastructure), and both visual and narrative materials meant to be distributed in paper and online formats. He emphasized that the presentation was informational and that "no action from this board is needed at this time." Commissioners were asked to authorize public workshops in September; Moya said the team would return for local endorsements and coordinate with the three municipalities that are part of Greene County.
Moya also referenced a state law citation during the presentation, given verbally as "136-66.2"; the NCDOT team characterized the CTP as a required element in state-level transportation planning processes. The board did not take formal action on the item during the meeting.
Commissioners thanked the NCDOT team for the work and indicated informal support for public outreach to present the draft recommendations to Greene County residents.
