The Madison County School Board approved the ratification of the 2025–26 salary schedule on Aug. 18 after the district reported union ratification votes earlier the same day.
Superintendent Dr. Pickles told the board that the instructional staff ratified the proposed schedule by a count of 106–1 and that classified/ESP staff ratified their schedule 67–0. The board then voted to ratify the schedule; the motion was made by Miss Knight and seconded by Miss Thompson and passed unanimously.
District finance staff and the superintendent told the board the pay package was intended to improve teacher retention and competitiveness with neighboring districts. The presentation said beginning teacher pay would rise to $47,500 and that veteran employees would also see increases based on years of experience.
Finance staff warned the board of the fiscal impact. “I think our last number was around $800,000, but that did not include the benefits,” a district finance presenter said during discussion; the meeting record shows staff estimating benefits would add roughly 30% to salary costs. The district noted the total recurring cost would therefore be materially higher and said it would monitor monthly financial reports and seek offsets such as grant management improvements and health-plan changes.
Board members praised the move to improve pay and said they would hold district staff accountable for monitoring the budgetary effects and identifying mitigation strategies.
The board approved the ratification by unanimous voice vote and directed staff to implement the payroll adjustments and to validate employees’ experienced years for lane placement by the October–November timeline described in the presentation.
