John, speaking for the Blackford County Highway Department at the Aug. 6 workshop, briefed commissioners and the public about ongoing and upcoming roadwork related to the Blackford Wind project and routine paving.
John said White Construction will temporarily close roads when it moves a crane between turbine sites and that closures will be short — typically 15–20 minutes — for public safety. "We ask that the public be courteous to them closing the roads. They're all closed for a short period of time, 15, 20 minutes," he said.
The highway update also noted RWE’s construction activity near 400 North east of Camden and work under a railroad crossing. John described paving plans: Rick’s Paving was scheduled to begin Thursday on sections including 100 North and other county roads, and full-width closures may be used for mile-long resurfacing stretches. He also warned that, as work progresses north of 100, semi-truck traffic may be rerouted through Hartford to reach factories.
John said White Construction had enforced route rules for truck drivers on the project and removed drivers who disobeyed. He urged residents to be patient and said the construction and paving work aims to improve roads for the public.
No formal action was taken; the highway update was presented as an informational report during the workshop.
