South Brookley final walk-through planned before demolition; Langan Park dredging said to be imminent

A council member announced a final public walk-through of the old South Brookley Elementary School ahead of planned demolition and redevelopment.
The council said it previously approved a demolition contract to clear the old South Brookley site to make way for a new community center, sales center and Boys & Girls Club. The council scheduled a final walk-through, called a "walk down memory lane," for Aug. 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 1600 Barking Boulevard at the South Brookley site and invited former students and teachers to attend.
Separately, Vice President Gregory said equipment on-site at Langan Park indicates that dredging work to restore that park's waterways could begin soon; he said a piece of dredging equipment was visible and that officials were "sitting on pins and needles" awaiting an official start. No construction contract or timeline beyond the council's comments was entered into the record at the meeting.
The announcements were informational; no new contract approvals or additional appropriations were made on these items during the Aug. 19 meeting.
