Commissioners praised Rodi’s work strengthening Catholic education, expanding ministries for the poor, supporting disaster recovery efforts along the Gulf Coast and preserving historic church properties. The resolution listed biographical points including that he served as bishop of Biloxi beginning in 2001 and was installed as archbishop of Mobile in February 2008. The resolution noted his role in restoring the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, expanding Catholic social services, and supporting vocations.
Archbishop Rodi accepted the recognition and told commissioners he had grown to love Mobile and its people during his time in the archdiocese. He offered a brief reflection and a story about public service and urged county officials not to be distracted by critics as they carry out their duties.
The resolution was signed by the three county commissioners and County Administrator Eddie Kerr and entered into the record at the meeting.
