Lyon County official thanks state for SB 118 public-health funding, urges continued support

A Lyon County Human Services director told the Board of Examiners the county used SB 118 funds to expand public-health education and connectivity to services and asked for continued use of public-health infrastructure funding.
Dr. Shayla Holmes, director of Lyon County Human Services, used the Board of Examiners' first public-comment period on Sept. 9 to thank the state for investments in local public-health infrastructure funded through SB 118 and to request continued support.
"The state's investment in public health infrastructure at a local level is greatly appreciated," Dr. Holmes said. She told the board that after receiving monies from SB 118, Lyon County has made progress educating communities about available services and connecting residents with public-health supports. "We look forward to being able to continue this while also being able to utilize funds from public health infrastructure to maintain and build upon the existing services and continue to improve Lyon County's public health program programming," she said.
Dr. Holmes's comment was the only public comment in Carson City during the first public-comment period; no formal action or vote followed her remarks.
