Madison Heights City Council approved the Aug. 25 consent agenda, including the appointment of Ryan Fox to the Planning Commission, during the meeting on Aug. 25.
A council member moved to approve the consent agenda as amended to reflect that only one mayoral appointment would be made that evening — Ryan Fox to the Planning Commission — and another council member seconded the motion. “Honor. Motion to approve the consent agenda as, amended by your comment,” a council member said. The motion was seconded and carried by voice vote; the mayor declared, “Motion carries.”
The consent agenda included the clerk’s items for boards and commissions appointments and the minutes from the regular council meeting of Aug. 11. Council discussion clarified that one mayoral appointment remained on the list and that other mayoral appointments would not be processed that night.
Council members noted that appointments to some boards, including the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), have been handled as mayoral appointments for several years and that the council aims to make more regular council appointments where practical. One council member said the DDA prefers to meet prospective appointees and that is why some appointments are delayed.
What happens next: Ryan Fox’s appointment to the Planning Commission was approved as part of the consent agenda; other pending mayoral appointments were deferred.
