Lubbock County Commissioners unanimously pass resolution backing state ban on high‑potency THC products

Lubbock County Commissioners Court on Monday unanimously approved a resolution urging the Texas Legislature and governor to ban high‑potency THC products now before the Legislature (discussed in backup material as “Senate Bill 6”). The resolution cites public‑health concerns, including links between high‑potency THC and addiction, cognitive impairment and mental‑health disorders among youth and vulnerable populations.

The County Judge read excerpts of the proposed resolution and described increases the county has seen in mental‑health cases linked to THC use, particularly among older teens and young adults who appear before the county’s civil mental‑health commitment process. The judge told the court that county officials see “a marked increase in mental health disorders because of THC,” adding that some cases have led families to step in to help students who have dropped out of school.

Marlise Boyles from the civil district attorney’s office was identified in the courtroom; the judge noted her role in those cases. After the reading, the judge moved to approve the resolution and asked that it be forwarded to members of the state Senate and House and to the governor’s office.
