Forsyth County Public Health to appropriate state funds to staff two full‑time breastfeeding peer counselors in WIC program

Forsyth County Department of Public Health staff on Aug. 25 briefed commissioners on a proposed amendment to the fiscal year 2026 budget to appropriate North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services funds to support two full‑time breastfeeding peer counselors in the county WIC program.
Nicole Priti said the counselors will staff and support the WIC breastfeeding‑peer counselor program, which assists more than 1,000 WIC participants who are currently breastfeeding in Forsyth County. The item was presented as an appropriation request to fund the positions; staff took no other policy actions in the briefing.
Commissioners asked no substantive questions in the briefing and the health department staff offered to answer follow‑ups.
