APSU trustees approve namings for Health Professions Building

The Austin Peay State University Board of Trustees on a special-call meeting approved naming three spaces in the Health Professions Building, including the Paxton Eddington Radiologic Suite, the Wade Hadley Rudolph Debriefing Room and a clinical simulation bed dedicated to Sandra K. Gillum and Joanne Workman Birchett.
Chris Phillips, vice president for alumni engagement and philanthropy and executive director of the APSU Foundation, told trustees the naming recommendations came from the university's naming committee and reflect donor support and alumni service. "We have had more that have come in since our last meeting that have risen to the level of getting named in the Health Professions Building, which will be ribbon cut on September 11," Phillips said.
The naming committee met on July 15, July 31 and Aug. 8, 2025 and made recommendations under Austin Peay policy 7009, Phillips said. The trustees voted by roll call to approve the three recommendations as a single group; the roll call recorded ayes from Trustees Christie Gibson, Christie Jenkins, Curtis Johnson, Ben Kimbrough, Trustee O'Malley, K. Christy McGinnis, Trustee McInnis and Trustee Mike Rainey. Trustees Cannata, Christy May, Trustee Mealer and Trustee Roe were recorded absent.
Details the board reviewed: the Paxton Eddington Radiologic Suite recognizes the philanthropic gifts and careers of Dr. Ernest Mack Eddington Jr., Brenda Pelly Faxton Eddington and Dr. Steven Franklin Faxton; the Wade Hadley Rudolph Debriefing Room reflects a premedicine endowment established by Janet and Johnny Rudolph Jr.; and one third-floor clinical simulation bed will be dedicated to Sandra K. Gillum and Joanne Workman Birchett through an endowed fund established by Lori and Travis Birchett. Phillips told the board the Eddington family gifts include full funding of music scholarships at Austin Peay and that Sandra K. Gillum had a 40-year career in surgical nursing in the Clarksville area and trained APSU nursing students during surgical rotations.
Chair O'Malley moved to take action on the naming committee's recommendations as a group and called for a motion; another trustee moved and seconded the approval. After the roll call, the chair announced, "The motion carries." The board had no public comment requests on the special-call agenda.
The board conducted no further business and adjourned the special-call meeting.
