Executive director reports Army Corps leadership changes, schedule slip at Sacramento Weir; SB 639 placed on suspense

Jason Campbell, deputy/executive director, updated the board on federal leadership changes and project activity during the Aug. 21 meeting.
Campbell said Adam Tel was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in early August as assistant secretary of the Army. Major General Kimberly Colliton, the deputy chief of engineers at Army Corps headquarters, and a new South Pacific Division commander, General Lloyd, visited local projects. Colonel Robert McTighe is the new commander for the Sacramento District.
Campbell said district and Corps leaders have been actively engaged on multiple projects, including field inspections of the Sacramento Weir common-features project. He said the Corps identified issues on one of the Weir abutments and that Corps leadership "want[s] to make this right and get things fixed," but noted there will be "a little bit of a slip in schedule" on the weir work.
Campbell described heavy construction activity south of an abutment on the American River, praising Granite Construction and other field partners for their work and encouraging board members, particularly newer ones, to take site tours in Yolo and on the American River to view progress firsthand.
On legislative matters, Campbell said California Senate Bill 639 remained active but was placed on the suspense calendar the previous day; he said staff hopes it will reach the Assembly floor before the Sept. 18 deadline.
No questions requiring further record action were reported. The board adjourned after announcing its next meeting on Sept. 18.
