The council accepted several grant awards and amended budgets by voice vote: a Metropolitan Council predevelopment grant for a project at 1170 North Arcade Street (item 32); grant funding for Rondo Community Land Trust Mixed‑Use Redevelopment at 642 Selby Avenue (item 33); a $49,000 Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Local Climate Action grant for a municipal fleet decarbonization plan (item 34); and $144,958 from the Minnesota Department of Commerce for geothermal planning in partnership with District Energy Saint Paul (item 35). Each grant resolution was adopted after public hearings where no speakers appeared.
Votes were recorded by voice and the council announced tallies in multiple instances as “6 in favor, no 1 opposed.” Several items were explicitly laid over to Aug. 20 for second readings or final adoption where required.
The meeting also included a ceremonial recognition of the Downtown Improvement District ambassadors; council members praised the ambassadors’ street‑level outreach and assistance to residents, businesses and visitors. Ambassadors and Downtown Alliance representatives thanked the council and noted staff transitions and placements into downtown housing.
