The Torrington City Council on Aug. 19 ratified a special-event permit addendum submitted by Matthew Richardson of The Compound to close part of East M Street for the Hometown Hustle 5K held Aug. 9. Richardson agreed to reimburse the city an estimated $105 for barricade costs.
Police Chief Johnson told the council that the request to close part of East M Street involved some miscommunication but that the department accommodated the event and, "by all reports I received, it was a safe and fun time," and that Richardson was "easy to work with." The council moved to ratify the permit addendum; Councilman Deal made the motion and Councilman Kelly seconded. The council approved the item by voice vote.
There was no additional council direction recorded regarding future special-event procedures; the action ratified the addendum already used for the Aug. 9 event and recorded the organizer's offer to reimburse barricade expenses.
