Tahlequah board previews Sept. 9 bond election; district will continue outreach campaign

The Tahlequah Public Schools Board of Education received an update on the district's 2025 school bond election and on outreach to voters ahead of the Sept. 9 ballot.
In the superintendent's report, a staff presenter said the bond would not raise the tax rate; rather, it would continue the rate the community has supported for more than 20 years. The district is promoting the bond's benefits for safety, facilities, athletics, arts, transportation and technology and has posted renderings and a video on the district website.
A district staff member described a daily social media program to share information during the 21 days before the election, noting the district will take weekends off from posting. The staff member said all registered voters in the school district will have multiple voting opportunities: absentee ballots, early voting in September and Election Day on Sept. 9. The presenter said school law does not require a 60% supermajority for this bond to pass and urged turnout, calling voter apathy the greatest risk to passage.
Board members and a community commenter highlighted outreach events. Nathan Reed, who spoke during the public comments period, said the Tahlequah area roundtable will feature the district on Aug. 28 at ICTC and that community volunteers will promote the bond. The district also plans in-person events, a pep rally and other neighborhood outreach in the run-up to the election.
No formal board action to change the bond or the district's outreach plan was taken during the meeting; the information was provided as part of the superintendent's report.
