Mitchell City Council on Tuesday approved Mayor Hansen’s recommendation to appoint Shane Sandoval to the position of chief of Fire and EMS, and Sandoval took the oath of office in a brief swearing-in ceremony.
Council member Goldhammer moved to approve the appointment; the motion was seconded by Council member McCardell and carried. After the vote the mayor administered the oath and the appointee recited the oath before taking his seat as chief.
The oath as recorded in the transcript reads in part: “I… do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the state of South Dakota and the ordinances of said city of Mitchell … and that I will faithfully and impartially, to the best of my knowledge and ability, perform all the duties of the office of chief of Fire and EMS.” The council then congratulated the new chief and completed the administrative paperwork.
No additional terms, salary changes or implementation details were stated on the record at the meeting.
