Summit County on Wednesday adopted Proclamation 2025‑06 to support America250 Utah and recognize a local Summit County Utah 250 community committee, a county staff presentation said.
Tyler Orgel, who presented the item, told the council the America250 Utah initiative is a statewide program to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence through programs such as a rotating pen display, a ‘Walk 250’ mileage challenge, a community‑service project called America’s Potluck, and a speaker series. Orgel said the county committee plans to use existing events and venues — including fair events — to promote the statewide initiative locally.
Councilmembers generally supported the proclamation but raised questions about committee membership and geographic representation. One councilmember noted the committee list in the packet contained primarily East Side fair‑board members and suggested outreach to Park City and other communities to broaden participation. Orgel said the state encourages use of existing events and venues and that the committee could expand outreach for broader county representation.
Councilmember Chris moved approval and Canis seconded; the motion carried with no recorded opposition.
