North Summit Fire governing board adopts new Lexipol-based policies

The governing board of North Summit Fire on Wednesday approved a suite of newly adopted policy sections supplied via Lexipol, a third‑party policy provider, to establish written guidance the district did not previously have.

The board approved amendments to policy sections the presenters identified as the 700 series (technology and related matters) and a range of 900-series policies. The package was presented as a first phase of new policies; staff said they will return with additional policies over upcoming months until the set of policies is complete.

Fire staff said the district selected Lexipol — described in the meeting as a Gordon Graham product — and that attorneys reviewed the template policies. The district also had a subcommittee review the drafts before presenting them to the governing board. Chief Nelson and other board members discussed several topics that appear in the new policies, including social‑media guidance for personnel and equipment/safety topics such as ballistic vests. Presenters emphasized these new policies are intended to give guidance where the district had none previously.

Councilmembers moved to approve the policy sections listed in the packet. The motion passed with no recorded opposition.

During the meeting the district announced a staffing change: Deputy Chief Nick Jarvis accepted a new deputy chief position in another city and will be leaving to practice as a nurse practitioner; the chief said the position will be posted in about a month to six weeks.

The governing board dismissed and the council reconvened with the county-council agenda.
