Indianapolis opens upgraded Washington Park with new playground and splash pad

Mayor Joe Hogsett and city and neighborhood leaders on Saturday cut the ribbon on a renovated Washington Park in the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood, marking completion of a project that city officials and neighborhood leaders said adds a playground, a splash pad, a comfort station and other amenities.
"The truth is Washington Park has been a cultural cornerstone of Indianapolis for well over a century," Mayor Joe Hogsett said at the ceremony, describing the park's history and the project's aims. "An investment of $3,500,000 from the Lilly Endowment has resulted in a brand new playground, splash pad, shelter, comfort station and so much more."
The upgrade, city officials said, includes added parking, a new event space, a refreshed shelter and new play equipment designed to draw more families and neighbors to the park. "Washington Park is…
