County administration reported that a wildfire labeled the Aubrey Mountain Fire broke out Thursday east of Oak Ridge. Officials said quick ground and air response kept the blaze small and away from homes; the sheriff’s office issued a Level 3 evacuation for residents on Roberts Ranch Road and Dunning Road on Thursday night and later lowered the evacuation level to Level 1 over the weekend. Staff reported an estimated 55 people and 17 homes were in the evacuation area and credited emergency management, the sheriff’s office and public information staff for response and resident notification.
County administration also announced that Tommy Gong began serving as Lane County Clerk in July following a national search. Staff described Gong as an experienced election administrator with 22 years in the field, having served in Contra Costa, San Luis Obispo and Stanislaus counties in California, and noted his credentials including a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, an MBA from San Francisco State University and professional election administration certifications and service on national election advisory bodies.
The board also announced two upcoming items: an executive session at 1:30 p.m. (Aug. 12) to conduct labor negotiations per ORS 192.660(2)(d) and a stabilization center site visit and listening session scheduled for Aug. 15 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on International Way in Springfield. The board noted that members may attend the site visit but no decisions would be made there and that media are allowed to attend the executive session but are directed not to report deliberations beyond the subject announced.
