Summer events recap: July 4 parade, inaugural Music & Arts Festival and movie nights drew tens of thousands

Staff presented a recap of spring and summer signature events and reported in‑person and online reach figures. Highlights included the July 4 parade and festival (93 parade entries, about 10,000 in‑person parade attendees and an estimated 25,000 festival attendees at Santana Park) and a 21‑minute fireworks program. Staff said the city recorded roughly 42,000 live views for the fireworks feed.

Staff also reported the inaugural Music & Arts Festival as a seven‑hour event featuring 21 local artists, about 10 live performances and an estimated 5,000 attendees over the day. The five‑week movies‑in‑the‑park program ran at four parks (Promenade Park, Ridgeline, Stagecoach and Spyglass) with weekly attendance ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 depending on the night; staff noted one movie week was canceled due to fires.

The weekly summer street fair included 25+ vendors and attracted between 2,000 and 3,000 attendees on high‑attendance nights; the Parks Foundation sponsored the beer and wine garden. Staff said city social media and online outreach reached more than 100,000 engagements and the combined in‑person reach for signature events and movies was over 52,000 for the season.

Staff invited commissioners to upcoming fall events including a Halloween weekend and the holiday lighting event in December. No formal action was taken on events during the meeting.
