Boyle County fiscal court authorizes $1.25 million CDBG application to upgrade Gun Range Road water lines

Boyle County fiscal court on Aug. 12 unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the county judge to apply for a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) of $1,250,000 for a water improvements project on and near Gun Range Road.
The resolution, read on the record by Magistrate Collins, says the grant application would fund upgrades and replacements to the existing water system to address chronic low pressure, public-health and fire-protection concerns. "The Boyle County fiscal court does hereby approve this resolution and authorizes the judge executive to execute the same on behalf of the county," Magistrate Collins read from the resolution.
The project described in the application would extend and upsize water main along Gun Range Road, replacing smaller lines with 12-inch pipe to increase supply and pressure for neighborhoods served from U.S. 34 East, including Old Bridge and Wells Landing. Court discussion made clear the vote authorized only submitting the federal grant application; the county will pursue the application and supporting documents if it qualifies.
Magistrates moved and seconded the resolution, and the court recorded an affirmative voice vote. No additional local funding or construction contract was approved at the meeting; those steps would require separate approvals if the grant is awarded.
If awarded, the CDBG funds would be federal grant dollars administered through HUD. The court’s action authorizes the judge executive to sign all application and project documents to pursue the federal support.
The court did not set or approve construction contracts during the meeting; staff and the judge executive will proceed with the application process and return to the fiscal court if and when the grant is offered.
