The Oregon State Historic Preservation Office on Monday presented results of a disaster-preparedness reconnaissance-level survey of built resources in Cottage Grove, saying the review identified hazards and potential historic properties the city may want to protect.
Evan West, survey and inventory coordinator for the Oregon SHPO, told the City Council the team looked at 172 properties in three survey areas and “identified 30 as preliminarily potentially eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.” West said the RLS — reconnaissance-level survey — is an external, visual evaluation carried out from public rights of way and added records to the publicly searchable Oregon Historic Sites database.
