The Burlington Community School District board approved minor increases to school meal prices for the 2025–26 school year and authorized a renewed food-service agreement with Notre Dame.
District staff said federal and state rules under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) allow the district to raise rates incrementally to reach prevailing state standards. The board approved raises of 10¢ for breakfast and lunch where applicable: elementary/intermediate breakfast to $2.30 and middle/high breakfast to $2.50; elementary/intermediate lunch to $3.05 and middle/high lunch to $3.15. Staff noted the district continues to qualify for free meals for students for another year; price changes primarily affect adult meals and student extras at the high school.
Separately, the board approved a renewed agreement to provide school meals to Notre Dame. The contract rate was increased from $2.75 to $2.90 per meal; administrators said the district provides food and delivery while Notre Dame provides servers and milk. The district staff explained the $2.90 rate includes indirect costs such as delivery and vehicle use. Board members said districts can set contract prices; Notre Dame has agreed to the new rate.
Both measures were approved by voice vote.
