The Fort Pierce Planning Board voted Aug. 11 to recommend approval of an annexation application from MRM Ventures for a parcel at the northwest corner of Cortez Boulevard and South 20th Street.
The annexation request, presented to the board by city planning staff, covers parcel ID 2421-233-0002-000-9, owned by Tim Morley. Staff said the property currently carries a St. Lucie County future land use of RU (residential urban) and a county zoning of RS (residential single-family, four dwelling units per acre). Under the city's proposed RL (residential low-density) designation, staff estimated a potential increase of about 12 dwelling units compared with the county designations. Staff recommended approval.
The board had minimal discussion and heard no public comments. Chair Bridal opened, and after a motion by Ms. Clements and a second from Mr. Collins, the board called the roll and the motion passed unanimously. The recorded votes were Ms. Carter: yes; Mr. Collins: yes; Ms. Clements: yes; Mr. Whiting: yes; Mr. Johnson: yes; Chair Bridal: yes.
Staff noted that all affected departments reviewed the annexation and found the proposal consistent with city ordinances and the comprehensive plan. No additional conditions were placed by the planning board; the recommendation will move to the city commission as the next step in the annexation process.
The annexation will change the parcel's jurisdiction from county to city and is intended to resolve a small enclave of county land surrounded by city territory. City staff characterized the measure as a routine step that supports infill and continuity of city services.
