Shaker Heights City Council voted Aug. 4 to convene an executive session to discuss personnel matters, including appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of one or more public employees or officials.
The motion to enter executive session was moved by Councilmember Moore and seconded by Councilmember Claytor. The clerk called the roll; all members recorded “Aye.” The roll-call sequence in the record was: Bixenstein — Aye; Claytor — Aye; Kauss — Aye; Malone — Aye; Moore — Aye; Ann Williams — Aye; Carmela Williams — Aye.
After the roll call, city staff told members both in chambers and online that the council “will not be going into executive session” and that staff did not anticipate any action afterward. Staff also instructed two members to join a separate Zoom link that would be started shortly. Shortly thereafter a member said, “With that, then we will go ahead, go into executive session,” and the public stream recording was stopped.
The council did not state any personnel actions, and no votes on personnel matters were taken on the public record during the meeting. The clerk noted the council did not anticipate taking any action after the executive session.
