Board hears plans for parent universities, principal engagement packet and quarterly student pulse checks

Mary (parent task force co-chair) said the district’s parent surveys show the top factor parents consider when choosing a school is "positive school community and parent involvement," and described plans for multiple parent-university events and a multilingual Parent Empowering Parents Conference tentatively planned for September. She said the district will also explore podcasts and YouTube as additional outreach tools.
Erin (co-chair) and other task-force members said staff outreach over the summer has led to increased collaboration on outreach planning. "When parents feel like there are meaningful and accessible ways to be involved, they're more likely to choose a school," Erin said.
Student advisers Landon and Jacira described a new principal engagement packet to provide principals with ready-made resources to implement student voice initiatives on campus, and said the district will pilot quarterly student pulse checks using an AI-driven ThoughtExchange tool to gather more frequent feedback. Jacira said the district hosted a multi-day leadership training camp this summer that brought students from across the state to Broward and that "there were over 200 students from all across the state" at the conference.
The audit committee reported that its selection committee met and suggested adding a quarterly progress report on the audit plan to give the board a regular update on audit work and emerging risks. Several board members asked staff to complete follow-up items, including training procedures and improved committee web pages.
Why it matters: Parent engagement and routine student feedback are central to school choice, student retention and school improvement. The principal packet and more frequent student surveys aim to make student voice practical for campus leaders and to give the board and staff earlier signals about school-level issues.
