"So there was a total of 4,982,000 requested, to be funded from the 4B. So we did have our 4B meeting, and the board did approve 3,482,000 of that," Robert said. He specifically noted Casa del Sol’s $2 million request was funded at $500,000, leaving $1.5 million unfunded.
Staff explained the 4B awards are not immediately available: grants require a 60‑day public notice in the newspaper followed by a public hearing with the 4B before funds are formally allocated to the city. Robert said a resolution to adopt the budget for 4B would likely be brought in October after those procedural steps, and only then could the city spend the awarded money.
Park projects listed for 4B consideration included improvements to Stewart Place Park and Vestal Park (pocket parks), and staff confirmed the park projects were among those approved pending the required public-notice and hearing steps.
Why it matters: 4B funds are a primary mechanism for funding downtown, tourism, and park projects. Partial funding decisions (for example Casa del Sol) change project scope and timing for those applicants. The city must follow local procedures before budgeting or spending the awarded matches.
Next steps: staff will publish the 60‑day public notice and return with a resolution after the public hearing to formally accept the awards and incorporate them into the budget.
