The Woodstock Mayor and Council on July 28 approved a sign waiver for 195 Towne Lake Parkway, voting 5-0 to allow a modified reuse of the existing monument sign with the top portion removed and non-electronic changeable price panels retained.
Staff explained the site’s existing monument sign is approximately 28 feet tall with about 134 square feet of sign face. Proposal 1, which would reuse the entire existing structure, would have retained that height and face area; proposal 2, which council approved, removes the top portion, lowers the structure to about 22 feet and reduces the sign face to about 92 square feet, though both options exceed new-sign limits for height and area in the code. Staff and the applicant explained the price indicators will be changeable copy (non-LED). The LDO limits new monument signs to 8 feet in height and 80 square feet of face area; the project is before council because the earlier conditional use and site work included a requirement that signage be reviewed by council.
The applicant noted surrounding commercial signs (including a tall Waffle House sign and other gas-station signage) and presented two conceptual designs. Council members said proposal 2 better fit the surrounding sign landscape and motioned to approve a sign package substantially similar to proposal 2, specifically requiring removal of the top section and prohibiting LED price displays. The motion passed unanimously.
