Under Sheriff Jeremy Barnett presented the contract on behalf of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. The proposed agreement covers one school year (10 months) with an option for a second year. The school district would pay the deputy’s salary for the 10-month school year; the county’s secondary road-patrol funds would cover the remaining two months so the county described the arrangement as cost-neutral.

The public safety committee used existing SRD contracts in Jackson Schools, Northwest, Vandercook and Western as templates for the Grass Lake agreement. Committee members voted to forward the contract to the full board with a recommendation of approval; the committee’s roll call reflected affirmative votes from committee members present and the chair declared the motion passed.
Full board action
Commissioner Bair moved to add the sheriff’s SRD contract recommendation to the consent calendar and the board approved the consent calendar as amended. The clerk announced the consent calendar “passes unanimously.” The contract will be executed consistent with the terms presented and the county will process payments through its normal payables process when invoices are submitted.
