At the start of the meeting board members and staff recognized athletic and academic achievements from Broken Arrow High School.
Dr. Smith introduced the boys golf state championship team and individual champion Jacob Newsome, marking the first individual state title in the program's history, and Coach Brown and the players appeared before the board wearing state championship rings. Coach Brown introduced team members Jacob Newsome, Colton Stevens, Porter Hart, Owen Mattson, Henry Seeley, Luke Chang and Jacoby Thetford.
Separately, the board recognized National Merit semifinalists and commended scholars from Broken Arrow High School. Janelle Wilson, a member of the BA Scholars team, and other teachers introduced students who qualified as National Merit semifinalists and commended scholars. Names read into the record included semifinalists Elijah Doolin, Jackson Flush (not present), Drew Henness, Yera (spelling in record: Yira/Yera) Oh, James Rogers (not present), Jaren Tarver and Umar Bassani (not present), and commended scholars Tatum Fowler and John Greenlee. Presenters noted students' academic goals, activities and family legacies; teachers said some students balance intense academic schedules with extracurricular commitments.
Board members thanked the students, families and teachers for the recognition items. No board action was required on these agenda items.
