The Wayne City Council on Aug. 4 approved an emergency repair contract with CRG Electric for $6,297.20 to fix the employee gate at the Wayne Police Department. The expense is to be paid from the police building maintenance budget.
Police and maintenance staff told council the gate has had intermittent issues for more than 20 years. The immediate problem involves underground electrical conduit between the building and the gate; staff said the conduit was not repairable and must be replaced so a new wire can be pulled. Most other hardware and the motor are on-site and have been replaced over time, the chief said.
Council asked how long the repair would take; staff said the work is expected to take one to two days and hoped to start the same week. The security company will reconnect gate hardware after the conduit and wiring are replaced.
Council approved the repair by unanimous voice vote.
Why it matters: The gate provides controlled access to police facilities; restoring reliable operation reduces security and operational disruption risks. Staff said the long-running issues have led to prior piecemeal hardware replacements, but this work replaces the failing conduit and wiring.
