Hoover Council approves routine licenses, contracts and project awards; schedules hearings on three property nuisances

At its August meeting, the Hoover City Council approved several resolutions including an alcohol license for a new restaurant, temporary event equipment and construction awards; three weed/vegetation abatement items received first readings and are set for public hearing Sept. 8.
The Hoover City Council voted to approve a set of routine licenses, contracts and a construction award during its regular meeting on Aug. 25, 2025, while scheduling public hearings for three weed-and-vegetation abatement resolutions.
Council approved Resolution No. 8551-25 to grant a 040 retail beer (on/off premises) and 060 retail table wine (on/off premises) alcohol license for Taziki's Mediterranean Cafe (doing business as Taz Hoover LLC) at 5880 LC Road, Building D1. There were no issues reported on the application during the meeting and the motion carried.
The council approved Resolution No. 8552-25 to accept Bid No. 25-016 from Screenworks NEP for a truck-mounted LED video screen rental at a cost of $25,500; the agreement is for one year with an option to extend for an additional year at the same price. Parks/rec staff said the screen is the temporary board used for the SEC baseball tournament and that the price includes travel and lodging for two technicians.
Resolution No. 8555-25 authorized the mayor to execute a joinder agreement with We Care TLC, LLC to continue medical services for city employees after an abrupt termination of services by a prior contractor. Staff said the new contractor will allow no interruption in services for employees.
Resolution No. 8556-25 authorized an agreement with Hoover Mall Holding LLC to use Riverchase Galleria facilities for the Hoover Fire and Police Departments’ annual Sept. 11 remembrance and stair climb scheduled for Sept. 6 at 9 a.m.
Routine business items — payment of bills and approval of the Aug. 11, 2025, minutes — were both approved by voice vote.
Three abatement resolutions (Res. Nos. 8548-25, 8549-25 and 8550-25) were read for the first time and set for a public hearing on Sept. 8, 2025. Staff reported that one property (3501 Laurel View Lane) has since been brought into compliance and will be removed from the second-reading agenda.
The council also voted to accept a construction bid and related award for the National Computer Forensics Institute expansion (Resolution No. 8557-25); that action and its funding are discussed in a separate council item.
Votes (voice): in each contested item where recorded on the floor, the mayor or council president called for “ayes” and the motions carried; no recorded roll-call tallies were read into the public record for these items.
Items returned for later action or public hearing include the three nuisance abatements, each scheduled for public hearing on Sept. 8, 2025.
