Council approves electrical and plumbing contracts for Wyatuck restroom replacement and trail improvements

Northampton County Council on Aug. 21 concurred with the county executive’s recommendations to award two construction contracts for the Wyatuck restroom replacement and trail improvements project.
The council considered a resolution endorsing a $26,293 contract with Bilitier Electric Inc. for electrical construction and a separate resolution endorsing a $92,524 contract with Master Mechanical Corporation for plumbing construction. Both items were introduced by County Council member Brown and moved to a vote; the council voted to approve the contracts.
County staff described the Wyatuck improvements as a multi‑year project with a Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) grant in hand and said the funding runs out at the end of the year. “Money runs out at the end of the year, and this project should be finished by then as well,” a county staff member said.
A council member noted a recurring issue in county procurements: several small public works contracts continue to attract only a single bid. “I just wanna point it out. We’re still only getting 1 bid for all these projects,” the member said during debate. No additional competitive‑bidding details were provided at the meeting.
For the Master Mechanical contract, the clerk announced the motion was adopted by unanimous vote (roll‑call result recorded as a 9–0 vote in the meeting record). The Bilitier Electric contract also carried on council concurrence; the formal roll‑call individual votes are recorded in the county meeting record.
The project remains subject to existing grant deadlines and construction scheduling coordinated by county public‑works staff. No amendments to the contracts were reported at the meeting.
