Zoning Commission approves nine consent rezonings, forwards recommendations to City Council

The City of San Antonio Zoning Commission on a voice and roll-call vote recommended approval of nine items on its combined consent agenda and forwarded those recommendations to City Council.

The consent items approved together were items 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 13. Those items involve a mix of residential and commercial rezoning requests at properties including 157 West Broadview Drive; 107 Cass Street; the 8800 block of Marbach Road; 530 East Cortland Place; 1002 Rees Street; 604 West Hollywood Avenue; 4130 Broadway Street; 1535 Hillcrest Drive; and 14223 State Highway 16 North. Staff read the summary of notices and neighborhood responses for each case during the agenda call.

Commissioner Ken Huey made the motion to approve the listed items; Commissioner Marco Barros seconded. The commission conducted a roll-call vote; the clerk recorded affirmatives from Commissioners Huey, Barros, Daniel Kellum, (Nojosa/Hinojosa recorded), Eddie Reyes, John Whitsett, Commissioner Janelle Chase and Chair John Bustamante. The motion carried and the cases will be transmitted to City Council with a recommendation of approval. Applicants and interested parties have six months to take the cases to City Council.

The commission did not have public comment on the combined items except for recorded voicemails associated with several cases; staff noted there were voice mails for items 3, 7 and 9 that were played earlier in the meeting.

The approvals were procedural recommendations only; final zoning changes will occur only if and when City Council acts on the commission’s recommendations.
