The Lincoln County Schools Board of Education reviewed a summary of Superintendent Dr. Aaron Allen—s annual evaluation at its Aug. 12, 2025 meeting and approved two procedural motions, including a vote to enter closed session.
Board leadership told the public the board had completed the evaluation process and shared several points drawn from the board—s confidential closed-session review. The board emphasized transparency in sharing a public summary: “We do strongly believe in transparency,” the Board Chair said, adding the board wanted the public to know the district—s evaluation process is thorough.
The summary said Allen had three goals during the review period: onboarding and supporting new board members; guiding ongoing work on the 2022–26 strategic plan and preparing for the 2026–30 strategic plan; and reinforcing district culture and student learning. The board noted the onboarding goal was widely judged successful and that the strategic-plan work had started but was not fully complete. Board members described district culture and student learning as areas of strength and recommended continued delegation to empower other leaders.
One board member summarized Allen—s scheduling practices colorfully during the discussion: “If anybody has seen his Google Calendar, it looks like the code of many colors,” the Board Chair reported while summarizing colleagues— comments about operations and delegation.
Procedural votes taken at the meeting:
- Approval of the meeting agenda: Motion to approve made by Miss Hebner and seconded by Mr. Jarrett. The board approved the agenda by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the public transcript.
- Motion to enter closed session: Motion made by Miss Long and seconded by Miss Wyatt to enter closed session “to prevent the disclosure of privileged information pursuant to NCGS 143-318.11(a)(1) to discuss matters that are confidential under NC law, including personnel matters and student matters … and to discuss matters that are protected by attorney-client privilege.” The motion carried by voice vote and the board entered closed session.
The closed session was called for personnel and student matters and attorney-client privileged discussions as cited in the statutory language the board read aloud.
