Sarpy County commissioners appoint Amber Hotelling as clerk and register of deeds, effective Jan. 19, 2026

The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 12 unanimously approved a resolution appointing Amber Hotelling to serve as Sarpy County Clerk and Register of Deeds effective Jan. 19, 2026, to fill the remainder of the current term.
Commissioners and county staff used the appointment discussion to thank Deb Hotelling, who is retiring in January after five decades of service in the clerk/registrar office. Bonnie Moore, Sarpy County administrator, and several commissioners praised Deb Hotelling’s tenure and the office’s modernization under her leadership.
Amber Hotelling described her county career to date, saying she began in the register of deeds office in 2004, served in multiple roles since the 2018 merger of the clerk and register of deeds offices, and most recently was promoted to chief deputy. “I’m looking forward to working with you so we can ensure that we’re remaining reliable and responsive, but most importantly, focused on serving our citizens,” Hotelling said.
The board moved and approved the resolution by roll-call-style voice vote recorded as 5 ayes, 0 nays. The motion to appoint Amber Hotelling was made by Commissioner Don Kelly and seconded by Commissioner Warren Mixon.
The board said a separate, formal farewell will be planned before Deb Hotelling’s retirement; the appointment fills the office vacancy that will open on Jan. 19, 2026.
