Board confirms transportation will remain district-run; five new buses purchased

Board officials and district staff told the Aug. 12 meeting that Pleasantville will not outsource school transportation and that the district is increasing its vehicle fleet and driver roster.
"Pleasantville is not outsourcing transportation. We have 20 buses, and as doctor Martinez said or miss White said, we're also getting 5 new buses," a board speaker announced during public comment responses. Board members also said several new bus drivers have been hired.
Several parents had raised questions about whether the district planned to contract out routes or otherwise reduce in‑district service. The board president reiterated that transportation "is staying in the district" and that the district has hired new bus drivers to support operations. The board approved transportation agenda items (4.1–4.4) by roll call later in the meeting.
District staff said the extra buses and drivers are intended to supplement existing service and to support the proposed schedule changes. No contract award or third‑party vendor authorization to outsource routes was approved at the meeting.
The board did not provide a detailed implementation timetable for the new buses at the Aug. 12 meeting; staff indicated the vehicles and hires will be brought into service as available and that further operational details will be published by the transportation office.
